About Us

Situated at the top of a tree lined residential street you may be surprised to find such an imposing and grand building as Green Gables. Originally built as a Hydro it is now owned and managed by Julie and Nicola great granddaughters of local businessman Robert C. Hopper who purchased the building and joined the hotel trade in the early 1920s, with the invaluable assistance of Nicola’s husband Nick who joined the business in 1983.

Nick, Nicola and Julie wish to personally welcome you to one of Scarborough’s oldest privately owned hotels. We are a family run business and this means hands on approach working alongside our dedicated staff members.

The original Victorian architecture gives a very spacious feel with large ground floor meeting rooms and many family sized bedrooms on the upper floors. This allows us to accommodate groups in excess of 90 easily when required. Self catering units also on the upper floors can be used for traditional family holiday accommodation or smaller bedrooms if needed.
